OUR Story: A Market Reimagined for today

Weston-super-Mare has a rich history of markets woven into the fabric of the town. As far back as 1842, a Local Act paved the way for a formal market—alongside improvements in paving, lighting, and sanitation—to help shape the growing seaside town.

Today, that same spirit of community and progress lives on in the Weston Independent Market, a vibrant weekly event that has brought new life to the town centre.

Launched in April 2025, the market takes place every Wednesday in the beautifully restored Italian Gardens, right in the heart of Weston. With over 40 stalls, it’s a welcoming hub where local makers, food producers, artists, and independent traders come together to share their passion and creativity.

This is more than just a market—it’s a place to connect. Whether you’re shopping for handcrafted goods, enjoying freshly made street food, or simply catching up with friends, you’ll find a warm, community-focused atmosphere that celebrates all things local.

The Italian Gardens themselves offer a perfect setting to relax and unwind. With open lawns for picnicking, playful fountains to cool off in, and plenty of benches, it’s an ideal spot to soak up the town’s charm. The space also hosts seasonal events throughout the year, from food festivals and live music to the magical Christmas Lights Switch-On.

The Weston Independent Market is helping to write the next chapter in the town’s story—one that honours its heritage while building a more connected, creative future.
